Fabio Giacopello on Design and Intellectual Property in China

Fabio Giacopello, managing partner at HFG, was one of the speakers at the webinar “Design e proprietà intellettuale: cosa tutelare e quali strategie”, promoted by FederlegnoArredo and INDICAM.

The online event was held yesterday, which shed light on risks, regulatory innovations and strategies for the protection of intellectual property in the design sector, especially in support of companies with an international vocation.

Fabio’s speech touched several important points with the focus on China legislation and strategies of protection, mistakes to be avoided and tips for safely making business and protect brands in China.

As far as the furniture sector is concerned, with its historical international vocation, the protection of creativity and technical, technological and design innovation are now fundamental aspects.

The theme of intellectual property is broad and, in furniture sector, covers various areas and facets, from trademark protection to design protection, and then touches the most industrially relevant area: the patent for industrial invention.

The landscape is not easy to manage. Each Country has its own legislation, which makes it necessary to know the characteristics of each Nation, because theoretically it would be necessary to protect the individual product in every single country or in groups of countries. Knowing legislation and rules and understanding the risks is the only way for foreign companies to manage how to protect brands and products.
