Saudi Arabia adopts the Nice Classification

As of November 5, 2023, Saudi Arabia adopted the 12th Edition of the Nice Classification of the International Classification of goods/services for trademark registration.

The Saudi Arabia Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) no longer allows selecting class headings upon filing trademark applications.

The applicants of the trademark applications can only select specific items of goods/services from the 12th Edition of the Nice Classification using the same wording or they can select all list of goods or services to cover the entire class if they wish.

This change marks a significant alteration in the registration process, offering a more precise and detailed approach for applicants.
