IP services Official fees increases in 2024 in some Countries

Starting from 2024, many Countries decided to increase the official fees for IP services.

From January 1st, Eurasian Patent Office (EUPO) increases official fees for particular legal actions on Eurasian Patents and Designs.

In average, the official fees are increased by 20-30%.

For example, basic official fee for filing a patent application will amount to approximately 536 EUR (instead of 386 EUR); basic official fee for substantive examination on first independent claim - around 536 EUR (instead of 430 EUR).

The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO)’s proposal for fee adjustments came into force on January 1st, 2024.

The fee adjustments would apply to most of the fees for CIPO trademark services, including filing applications and renewing registrations. The proposal maintains the current fee structure, but would increase most fees by 25%, subject to exceptions. For a complete list, see CIPO’s Draft Fee Proposal.

The intent of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to conduct an overhaul of its existing fee structures can be interpreted as an effort to generate additional revenue for the agency and to drive applicants to use standardized descriptions of goods and services.

March-June 2024 is set to be the Public comment period. This will be an additional opportunity for the public to comment on the proposed fee schedules.
October 2024 is the estimated time for USPTO to publish the Final Rule, while the effective date of fee changes is November 2024.
