HFG spoke at 2023 EU-China Conference on IPR Protection Online & Innovation
On 26 May 2023, IP Key China and the Beijing Anti-infringement and Anti-counterfeiting Alliance (referred to as CAASA), held the 6th EU-China Conference on IPR protection Online & Innovation.
The Conference brought together major e-commerce platforms and right-holder representatives to address the challenges and opportunities associated with intellectual property protection and enforcement in the online environment.
Reinout van Malenstein, partner at HFG, was both speaker as well as panellist (Panel C). He was in a panel moderated by Gyta BERASNEVIČIŪTĖ-SINGH, IP Key, with the following speakers and topics:

Panel A - “Technology empowerment + diversified co-governance" to support new consumption
The rise of e-commerce has provided counterfeiters with a platform to sell fake items to unsuspecting consumers, and technology is increasingly bringing opportunities to increase their first panel discussed the need for cooperation between stakeholders to face those challenges, property protection and enforcement.
Panel B - E-commerce platform law enforcement practice
This panel focused on how law enforcement works to identify and shut down fraudulent sites, collaborating with major platform operators and brand owners to combat counterfeiting. Local experiences were discussed, and specific attention was paid to the successful EU approach to face this issue: the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between EU rightsholders and E-Commerce platforms.
Panel C - Best IPR enforcement online and offline
In this panel, the participants explored practical approaches to intellectual property rights enforcement both online and offline. Main challenges and priorities were identified in civil, administrative, and criminal spheres, looking into the issues faced by right holders in different sectors.
Panel D - Sharing and analysis of the infringement and counterfeit cases on e-commerce platforms
Sharing and analysing infringement and counterfeit cases on e-commerce platforms was the main topic of this panel. The approach selected combined the assessment of current trends selected relevant case law.
